15 years of sustainable biomass heating on the Isle of Arran

This year, AMP proudly celebrates 15 years of delivering low-carbon heating solutions on the Isle of Arran. Over the past decade and a half, our biomass systems have been integral to supporting local businesses and communities with reliable, sustainable, low carbon heat.

Currently, we manage seven biomass systems on the island, providing heat to hotels, a school, an outdoor centre, and the new ferry terminal. These systems are run on locally sourced wood chip, utilising Arran’s abundant forestry resources effectively. By keeping timber on the island, we not only reduce carbon emissions but also add significant value to local timber, and reduce heating costs for local businesses and organisations.

A key element of this success has been the development of a local fuel supply chain by our local fuel supply partner, which has brought numerous benefits to the island. This has created local jobs in timber processing and fuel delivery, while also ensuring a sustainable and cost-effective heat source for the island. One of our own biomass boilers even plays a part in this process, drying the wood chip to ensure it meets the high standards required for fuel.

The smooth operations of these systems is made possible by our dedicated on-island engineer, supported by our Service Scotland team and our exceptional service desk team. Together, they handle everything from system maintenance to planning, parts supply and RHI management, ensuring seamless delivery of heat.

This milestone represents AMP’s ongoing commitment to providing innovative, low-carbon heating solutions that support both the environment and the communities we serve. We are proud to continue our partnership with the Isle of Arran and look forward to building on these successes for many years to come.
