AMP Takes Home ADE Demand Award for Groundbreaking UK-First Project

AMP Wins ADE Demand Award for UK-First Project

We are proud to announce that AMP has been honoured with the Demand Award by the Association for Decentralised Energy (ADE).

In the energy industry, attention often focuses on generation, but this award is a powerful testament to the critical role that demand-side innovation plays in achieving net zero. It validates our core mission: delivering practical solutions that turn sustainability ambitions into commercial reality.

The Power of a Whole Systems Approach

The winning project, an innovative energy centre designed and delivered for Simpsons Malt Limited, is a prime example of our integrated, whole systems approach.

The challenge was clear: how do we decarbonise industrial heat at a major UK site while addressing grid stability and renewable energy waste? Our solution was the first of its kind in the UK, combining two powerful clean energy sources:

Grid Flexibility: The centre uses a flexible electric boiler to convert surplus wind power that would otherwise be curtailed and wasted.

Heat Decarbonisation: This is integrated with a biomass system, utilising sustainably sourced fuel, reinforcing our commitment to responsible energy as detailed in our Sustainability Playbook.

By converting these often-wasted resources into reliable, low-carbon industrial heat, the system doesn’t just cut carbon emissions, it delivers real-world impact by preventing an estimated 140 GWh of renewable energy from being curtailed. This approach demonstrates that grid flexibility and heat decarbonisation are two sides of the same coin.

Recognition and Dedication

It is a great honour to receive this recognition, and we want to extend our sincere thanks to the ADE for championing demand-side excellence. We also want to thank Simpsons Malt Limited for partnering with us on such a forward-thinking project.

Most importantly, this award is a tribute to the commitment of the AMP team. Our CEO, Mark Tarry, gave a special shout-out, noting that this project is the result of a team that is “brilliant and relentless in getting things done.” A huge congratulations goes to Stuart Reid, our Director of Customer Solutions, who led this project and brought this groundbreaking concept to life.

We are driven by a passion to create a smarter energy future, and our flexible assets and clean heat solutions are playing a pivotal role in managing the growth of intermittent renewable’s across the UK.
