AMP secures new investment to accelerate industrial decarbonisation and local energy storage

We’re thrilled to announce that AMP has received a £50m equity investment from the National Wealth Fund. This funding means we’ll fast‑track our nationwide roll out of Battery Box and help more business across the UK decarbonise their heat.

Since 2011, AMP has delivered embedded energy solutions that reduce carbon, cut energy costs, and support local grid resilience. Our award-winning Battery Box connects directly to local networks, charging with excess wind and solar power and discharging during peak demand – helping balance the grid locally and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Each compact unit saves around 160 tonnes of CO₂ per year.

Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves said:
“Investing to decarbonise the grid will help supply secure, affordable, and renewable energy which is good for growth, businesses and jobs. Fuelling the clean energy revolution with local projects like this is a vital part of our Plan for Change.”

Our customer solutions business helps customers decarbonise their heat by funding, developing and operating on-site energy solutions including electric boilers, biomass heating and hybrid systems. We design systems that reduce Scope 1 emissions, maximise wind energy usage, and deliver measurable reductions in carbon while lowering energy costs. Our landmark project at Simpsons Malt is already cutting CO₂ emissions by 25,000 tonnes a year by pairing biomass boilers with an electric boiler powered by curtailed wind. You can read more about it here.

With this new investment, we’ll scale, faster: rolling out more Battery Box sites to embed energy storage within local communities and expanding industrial heat decarbonisation across industrial sectors, helping more businesses reduce emissions and energy spend.

Stay tuned: in the coming months we’ll be announcing new council partnerships, industrial sites as they go live, and more stories that show how low-carbon infrastructure can power change.
