AMP: A Forces Friendly Employer

At AMP we are proud to be a Forces Friendly Employer and a committed signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant. This pledge reflects our dedication to
supporting those who serve, or have served, in the Armed Forces along with their families.
Why We Signed the Armed Forces Covenant
By signing the Covenant, we have formally recognised the incredible contribution of service personnel, veterans, reservists, and military families. It underlines our promise to treat those connected to the Armed Forces with fairness, respect, and opportunity in every aspect of our business.
This commitment is not just symbolic it’s a core part of our values as a responsible, inclusive, and forward-thinking employer.

- Inclusive Recruitment: We actively welcome applications from veterans, reservists, and military spouses.
- Transferable Skills Recognition: We understand the unique strengths that Armed Forces personnel bring leadership, discipline, resilience, and
teamwork. - Flexible Policies: We offer understanding and flexibility for reservists and those with military commitments.
- Ongoing Support: From onboarding to long-term career development, we provide a supportive environment where Armed Forces personnel can thrive.
Our Commitment in Action
We’re proud to already employ members of the Armed Forces community across our business. Many have shared inspiring stories of how their transition
into civilian employment has been supported by AMP and how they’ve continued to grow with us.
We will continue to champion Armed Forces awareness, celebrate key military dates like Armed Forces Day and Reserves Day, and uphold our promise to those who protect our country.
In the spotlight
I joined the Royal Navy in 2002 as a Seaman Specialist, where I was responsible for sea survival, Morse code and flashing light communication, upper deck weapons, and seamanship operations such as refuelling at sea and bringing the ship safely alongside. I also operated and drove sea boats during maritime operations.
I served on HMS St Albans and HMS Westminster, including multiple deployments to the Gulf Region protecting oil platforms, and missions in and around Somalia. My career was unfortunately cut short after a severe shoulder injury playing rugby for the Navy in Iceland, leading to medical discharge.
I joined AMP in March 2018 as a Delivery Driver and have since progressed to Operations Supervisor for the South. I’ve worked across a variety of roles during my time here and have really enjoyed being part of the team. I look forward to continuing to grow with the business.
Blake Barnwell – Operations Supervisor
I joined the Royal Navy straight out of school at 16, completing my basic and engineering training at HMS Raleigh, HMS Sultan, and HMS Dolphin.
Though my naval career ended early at Faslane, Scotland, it sparked a lifelong passion for engineering. I went on to complete a marine engineering apprenticeship at Appledore shipyard, where I spent eight formative years.
Since then, I’ve remained in engineering and began my journey with AMP in biomass in 2002. Over two decades later, I’m still loving every moment of it.
Mike Castle – Field Service Engineer and Supervisor
I joined the British Army in 2012, beginning the long journey of becoming a soldier before specialising in combat engineering. As a Sapper in the Corps of Royal Engineers, I trained in core soldiering skills and combat engineering, delivering military mobility, survivability, and counter-mobility support to UK forces and NATO. My role expanded into engineering maintenance, where I was responsible for scheduled operations and urgent repairs on everything from Land Rovers to heavily armoured, mine-protected vehicles.
I deployed to Jordan as a High Threat Counter-IED Searcher and trained as a Team Medic, providing lifesaving trauma care at the point of injury. Soon after, in 2014, I deployed to Afghanistan for four months. As the lead searcher, I was tasked with clearing safe paths through heavily IED-contaminated areas of Helmand Province – some of the most challenging and high-threat conditions imaginable. In 2015, I qualified as a Utilities and Petroleum Engineer, commissioning and maintaining cross-country fuel lines, freshwater systems, wastewater treatment works, and heavy diesel power generators. Later that year, I deployed to Iraq in support of the coalition campaign against ISIS. As an Advanced High Threat IEDD Operator, I worked closely with Kurdish security forces, training and mentoring them in combat engineering and explosives disposal.
When operational tempo slowed, I left the Army in 2019 and moved into the energy sector. I joined a company specialising in Flexible Power Generation, managing and maintaining a diverse portfolio of gas reciprocating engines. In 2021, I was ready for a new challenge and joined AMP as a Flexible Generation Field Service Engineer & Supervisor within the Urban Reserve department. Just a year later, I was promoted to Service Manager.
