Class 2 Tramper Driver

Hermitage, RG18 9SD

Overview

Here at AMP, our mission is to create a smarter energy future. We deliver practical solutions that help businesses decarbonise and tackle the challenges of climate change.

The size and scale of the challenge mean we must continually grow our team, bring in new ideas and new approaches and be ready to push the boundaries. At every level, we are looking for bold, ambitious, bright, and collaborative people that share our commitment to making a difference.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Class 2 Tramper Driver to join our Operations team at our depot in Hermitage – a hands-on role where the successful applicant will be delivering wood pellet and chip fuel to our customers, operating safely, efficiently, and always to the highest quality and service standards.

Interested? If you are motivated, dependable, hold a Class 2 licence, and take pride in doing work that matters – AMP can offer you the challenge and opportunity you are looking for.

The role will involve

  • Safely operating Class 2 Company vehicles to deliver and collect materials in line with customer requirements while ensuring excellent service.
  • Carrying out manual handling tasks safely and effectively, including loading and unloading biomass fuel products such as wood pellets or wood chip.
  • Moving and connecting delivery equipment such as hoses/pipes on site, sometimes working in confined or uneven spaces.
  • Conducting daily pre-use vehicle and trailer checks, promptly reporting any defects.
  • Maintaining a clean, tidy, and safe working environment, including the vehicle.
  • Complying with all DVSA regulations, including Tachograph rules, the Working Time Directive (WTD), and Road Transport Directive (RTD) legislation.
  • Keeping your Driver CPC up to date and notifying the Transport Supervisor of any changes to your licence or driver card.
  • Following all health, safety, and environmental procedures, reporting hazards or risks immediately.
  • Accurately complete and submit all required documentation within specified timescales.
  • Liaising effectively with the Transport Supervisor regarding paperwork, vehicle weights, issues, and Tachographs.
  • Communicate clearly and cooperatively with customers, colleagues, and other departments, building strong professional relationships.
  • Follow company codes of practice, procedures, policies, contractual obligations, and workplace agreements.
  • Complete all mandatory and role-related training in a timely manner.
  • Be flexible and willing to support other areas of the business when required.
  • Carrying out any other duties relevant to the role as needed.

What we are looking for

We are seeking a reliable and professional driver with:

  • A valid Class 2 Licence with less than 6 penalty points
  • An up-to-date Driver CPC card
  • Experience in professional driving within a commercial environment
  • Solid geographical knowledge and excellent time management
  • Strong awareness of health & safety requirements and an excellent understanding of Transport legislations
  • A professional, customer-focused attitude and strong communication skills
  • Experience operating plant equipment.
  • Confidence using delivery technology such as PDAs, tablets, or smartphones.

What we will offer in return

We’ve built a culture founded on honesty, working hard, and enjoying ourselves, and have created a workplace where everyone feels more connected, heard, and valued. Our employee benefits include:

  • 26 days annual leave entitlement plus 8 days for public holidays
  • Life Insurance
  • Employer pension contribution
  • Healthcare Cash Plan
  • Access to advice, counselling, and support
  • Access to GP services
  • Wellbeing tools and resources
  • Shopping and lifestyle discounts
  • Discounted gym membership.

Additional information

  • Location: Hermitage Farms, No 1 Manor Lane Oare, Hermitage, Berkshire, RG18 9SD
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Competitive salary to be discussed at interview, plus quarterly Driver Incentive Bonus Scheme
  • Hours of work: Day shifts, 5 days over 7 averaging 40 hours per week across two 26-week Reference Periods (January-July and July-January). Overtime calculated at the end of each Reference Period, paid at a rate of time and a half of basic salary or time off in lieu.

Due to the physical nature of the role, applicants must be capable of performing manual handling tasks safely and effectively. This includes the loading and unloading of biomass fuel products such as wood pellets or wood chip, sometimes in challenging environments or adverse weather conditions.

The role may involve working at height, using hoses or other delivery equipment, and operating within confined or uneven spaces. Candidates should therefore be physically fit, with a good level of stamina and awareness of proper manual handling techniques in accordance with health and safety guidelines.

In addition, the role may require early starts, occasional extended hours, and travel across varying routes, so flexibility and resilience are essential.
