As AMP Clean Energy’s low carbon heat and power business continues to grow, we are on the lookout for an experienced Group accountant to join our Group Finance Team. Working with the CFO, the purpose of the role will be to provide accurate, timely and relevant statutory reporting and management information to ensure management meet statutory requirements and achieve strategic business goals; line managing the Sales and Purchase Ledger within the team; and improving transactional systems, processes, and controls across the business.

Main responsibilities of the role:

  • Ensuring organisational effectiveness by providing leadership in financial operational functions within the AMP Group function to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the financial operational process;
  • Provide accounting technical support to the business on proposed ventures and impact assessments of new financial reporting standards;
  • Ensuring compliance with IFRS standards;
  • Report on the company’s financial health and liquidity;
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts for various entities within the Group;
  • Develop and undertake internal audits of companies within the group to ensure compliance with group policies;
  • Working with CFO, FP&A Manager and Head of Asset Management with various ad-hoc improvement projects;
  • Maintain statutory registers and tax authorities reporting requirements;
  • WIP and stock accounting;
  • Responsible for the production of the financial statements for the Group Annual Report and interim report;
  • Responsible for managing the external audit;
  • Prepare cash-flow forecasts to ensure cash is managed efficient and effectively and manage working capital;
  • To develop and promote continuous improvement across the transactional team (Sales Ledger / Account payable) with to ensure delivery on finance performance targets and projects;
  • Promote and contribute to continuous improvement ethos, especially in inter-departmental processes that interact or feed into the finance systems and management information produced;
  • Lead or contribute to specific improvement projects as agreed with line manager or director – specifically that bring about cross departmental / company cost operational benefits;
  • Manage system upgrades and controls;
  • Develop and undertake internal audits of companies within the group to ensure compliance with group policies.

The candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • Hands-on experience with accounting software, Sage is desirable.
  • Month end close experience.
  • IFRS experience essential.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables.
  • Experience with external audit and liaising with external auditors.
  • Qualified / newly qualified accountant ACA / ACCA or equivalent.
  • Previous audit experience working for one of the Big Four audit firms.
  • A quick learner with high expectations and personal standards – with a passion to get things right and able to work to tight deadlines.
  • IT literate with systems experience and good excel skills.
  • Support group treasury requirements.
  • Statutory reporting experience.
  • Good technical reporting skills.
  • Develop and undertake internal audits of companies within the group to ensure compliance with group policies.
  • Ability to implement positive change to financial processes and controls to increase efficiency and security.
  • Skilled people manager, experience of managing an accounts team.
  • Good communicator.
  • Experience in renewables is desirable not essential, passionate.
  • Private equity experience desirable

  • Comfortable speaking with Financial and non financial colleagues and external customers.
  • Good at managing change and excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and good attention to detail in a fast paced environment, aligned to our companies process.
  • Passionate about the renewables sector; with an interest in low carbon energy solutions and decarbonisation.

We are offering a competitive salary which will be discussed at interview.

  • Hours of work: 09:00 – 18:00, Monday to Friday
