Supporting sustainable British fruit production
Biomass heat supports Net Zero strawberry production for Global Berry
Strawberry grower Global Berry has taken advantage of AMP Clean Energy’s boiler buyback offer to benefit from a cash boost and year-round stress-free heat. Low carbon heat supports the growth of 400 tonnes of British strawberries under glass – supplied to leading UK supermarkets including Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda.
The Vision:
Global Berry wanted to boost sustainable food production and remain competitive with overseas producers. Biomass heat offered the perfect solution to achieve their business objectives. However, after commissioning the 1MW biomass boiler in 2017, the business soon decided they wanted expert help and support to maintain and care for the installation.
The Solution:
AMP Clean Energy provided Global Berry with a cash incentive to take over ownership of the biomass boiler in 2018. AMP Clean Energy now supplies the fuel and operates and maintains the heat system, leaving Global Berry to focus on its core business.
The biomass displaced oil, resulting in savings of 1,000 tonnes of carbon a year.
Sustainability is at the top of our agenda and biomass provided the perfect renewable heat source for our business. The buyback scheme has enabled us to focus on growing whilst we leave AMP Clean Energy to look after the biomass installation and supply us with heat.
