Battery Box Project for Farming & Agriculture

AMP’s Battery Box Project:
Empowering Farmers to Drive the Energy Transition
AMP is partnering with landowners across the UK through our Battery Box project. We offer farmers and agricultural businesses an innovative way to generate a long-term income stream from small, underutilised plots of land.
By hosting an energy storage system, you can diversify your farms revenue and play a vital role in strengthening the local grid and supporting the UK’s transition to a net-zero future.
Why Farmers are Ideal Partners for Energy Storage
Farming businesses often hold the key to the energy transition becuase of their proximity to infrastructure. Many farms have secondary substations or power lines on their land that are perfectly suited for micro-energy storage.
Diversify Your Income: Turn a tiny footprint (just 24m²) of non-productive land – like a grass verge or a corner of a yard – into a high-yielding asset.
Zero Capital Outlay: AMP fully funds, installs, and operates the unit. You simply provide the space and collect the rent.
How the Battery Box Project Works
We’ve designed the Battery Box project to be seamless and straightforward for landowners. Here’s how we make it happen:
1. Site Identification
AMP uses specialised mapping to identify sites near existing substations on your land.
2. Verification
We liaise with the local electricity network (DNO) to confirm a connection is viable.
3. Agreement
We offer a long-term lease with an upfront payment of £10,000 or an index-linked annual rental.
4. Planning & Legal
AMP submits the planning application and pays for the legal fees associated with the lease review.
5. Installation
Construction takes just a few weeks. The unit is roughly the size of two car parking spaces.
6. Remote Operation
Once live, the site is monitored 24/7. We only visit 1–2 times a year for maintenance.

It really is that simple. AMP handles the heavy lifting – from planning and grid applications to installation and maintenance – minimising the impact on your day-to-day operations. To ensure the process is entirely cost-free for you, we also provide a contribution towards your legal fees for the lease review. This means you can host a Battery Box with zero capital investment and no administrative burden.
Success Story: Landowners Leading the Way in Energy Storage
““Adding these Battery Boxes to our estate just made complete sense.

Plan. We identified sites in commercial locations to minimise disruption. The installs
were hassle free, with the team at AMP providing a complete turnkey solution.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it interfere with my farming operations?
Not at all. The footprint is tiny (24m²), and we prioritise “dead space” like corners of fields or unused verges. Once installed, it is quiet, fenced off, and requires almost no physical presence from our team.
Do I need to invest any money?
No. The project is fully funded, owned, and operated by AMP. There are no upfront costs, and we even contribute towards your legal fees for the lease agreement.
How close does the land need to be to a substation?
Ideally, the site should be within 50 meters of a secondary substation. This proximity is what allows us to offer such competitive rental rates.
Will it affect my own electricity supply?
No. The Battery Box connects directly to the grid. It does not pull from your farm’s private supply, and in many cases, the infrastructure upgrades we fund actually improve local grid resilience.
What happens at the end of the lease?
At the end of the 30-year term, we are responsible for removing the unit and restoring the land to its original condition.
