Battery Box Project for Sports

AMP’s Battery Box Project:
Generate Long-Term Income from Unused Sports Club Land
Battery Box enables sports clubs to generate reliable, long-term rental income from small areas of unused land while supporting the UK’s transition to a smarter, more flexible electricity network.
Whether you’re a football club, cricket club, rugby club, bowls club or multi-sport organisation, Battery Box could help secure additional income to invest back into your facilities and community.
Why choose Battery Box
Running a sports club is becoming increasingly expensive, with rising maintenance costs, ageing facilities and growing pressure on volunteers.
Battery Box offers an opportunity to generate reliable rental income from underused land without affecting your playing pitches or day-to-day activities.
Whether your club is looking to improve facilities, support youth teams or secure its long-term future, Battery Box could help unlock the value of land that currently isn’t being used.
How the Battery Box Project Works
We make the process as simple as possible. From your initial enquiry through to construction and operation, our experienced team manages every stage of the project.
1. Initial Site Assessment
Once you get in touch, we’ll review your site and assess whether your land could be suitable for a Battery Box installation.
2. Surveys & Planning
If your site is suitable, we’ll carry out the necessary technical surveys, planning assessments and grid connection studies, keeping you informed throughout the process.
3. Agreement
We offer a long-term lease with an upfront payment of £10,000 or an index-linked annual rental.
4. Installation
Following planning approval, our specialist contractors will install the Battery Box on the agreed area of land, with minimal disruption to your club’s day-to-day activities.
5. Long-Term Partnership
Once operational, the Battery Box helps support the UK’s electricity network while your club benefits from a reliable, long-term rental income that can be reinvested into your facilities and community.
6. Professionally Managed, 24/7
Once your Battery Box is operational, AMP takes care of the day-to-day management.

Our systems are monitored remotely 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by our experienced operations team, helping to ensure safe, reliable performance at all times.
Routine maintenance and servicing are carried out by qualified engineers, meaning there’s minimal involvement required from your sports club. You can continue focusing on your members, facilities and community, while we look after the Battery Box.
Supporting Grassroots Sport Across the UK
We are already working with sports clubs across the UK, helping them make better use of underutilised land while supporting the UK’s energy transition to a smarter, more flexible electricity network.
Our growing portfolio includes partnerships with football clubs, rugby clubs and community sports organisations, demonstrating how Battery Box can provide long-term value for both clubs and the wider community.
Across these projects, Battery Box installations are helping to reinforce local electricity networks while contributing to grassroots sport through long-term investment. Collectively, these projects represent £70,000 invested into grassroots sports and £2.1 million invested in reinforcing local electricity networks.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much land is required?
The footprint is tiny (24m²), and we prioritise “dead space” like corners of fields or unused verges. Once installed, it is quiet, fenced off, and requires almost no physical presence from our team.
Do I need to invest any money?
No. The project is fully funded, owned, and operated by AMP. There are no upfront costs, and we even contribute towards your legal fees for the lease agreement.
Will it affect our playing pitches?
No. Our aim is always to use underutilised land that has little or no impact on your sporting facilities.
Will it affect my own electricity supply?
No. The Battery Box connects directly to the grid. It does not pull from your supply, and in many cases the infrastructure upgrades we fund actually improve local grid resilience.
What happens at the end of the lease?
At the end of the 30-year term, we are responsible for removing the unit and restoring the land to its original condition.
